With the FL-EDIH, Liechtenstein is taking a step towards a further digital future / The European Digital Innovation Hub for Liechtenstein’s digital future
The first step towards nominating a Liechtenstein European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) has been taken. The European Commission’s call for proposals ended on November 16, 2022. Three Liechtenstein projects submitted their applications to the EU on time.
The EDIHs are a central part of the Digital Europe program, with which the EU Commission will strengthen the digital transformation of SMEs in Europe. The EU Commission is therefore building a European network of EDIHs. The state parliament decided at the end of 2020 that Liechtenstein should participate in the Digital Europe program.
An EDIH is an organization or a group of organizations (consortium) that aims to support SMEs and public administration in digital transformation through a wide range of services. They stimulate the introduction, use and spread of current, digital technologies in the economy through various supplementary services and offers. The EDIHs are “non-profit”, not-for-profit organizations. The EDIH is financed 50% by the Digital Europe Program of the European Commission and 50% by the State of Liechtenstein for a period of 3 years with an option to extend it for a further 7 years.
In mid-July, the call for tenders was published by the Financial Center Innovation and Digitization (SFID) department. Interested parties submitted their application directly to the EU Commission. No pre-selection or evaluation was carried out by the Liechtenstein government. All applicants require the official state letter of nomination in support of your application. The EU is now carrying out its evaluation and selection of the submitted projects. A decision is expected in early 2023.
The state parliament approved the amount for the Liechtenstein EDIH in the budget for 2023. As soon as the EU Commission has selected the Liechtenstein EDIH, the government WILL submit the concrete financial decision to the state parliament.
