Successive fronts will “fill” Portugal with rain this week
in the high latitudes begins to gradually consolidate a anticyclone lock🇧🇷 Pressure anomalies are positive, very robust in northern Europe and, as the week goes on, they will also expand towards the Atlantic and Greenland, giving rise to a large anticyclonic “bridge” at high latitudes. The cold air masses and, therefore, the areas of high baroclinic instability, where depressions are born, will position themselves much further south and the Iberian Peninsula will come under their influence🇧🇷
Before that happens, the weather panorama in Portugal and Spain will be marked by the presence of an anticyclone which will make a much more stable and predictable time🇧🇷 After the passage of the cold front last Sunday (27), a cold advection from the northwest was left behind.
it is Tuesday (29) weather conditions will be dominated by high pressure🇧🇷 However, this anticyclone will be mobile and not very stable, withdrawing quickly and paving the way for the arrival of later Atlantic fronts. during the expected day partly cloudy or sunny skies in much of our geography. Even so, there will be abundant cloudiness in the Northern Region of the country.
Furthermore, time will pass, avoiding a small drop in the minimum temperature🇧🇷 there will also be a risk of formation of ice and frost in the interior North and Center, such as the Northeast Transmontano and the Beira Alta🇧🇷
The flow will start to blow weakly from the North or East. The moderate risk of strong sea swell has already caused the activation of yellow notice due to northwest waves of 4 to 5 meters that will encompass a large part of the western coastal strip, between the district of Viana do Castelo and of Setubal🇧🇷 This weather warning will last until the early hours of Tuesday morning (29).
From Wednesday the rain may fall more frequently
Next Wednesday (30)last day of November, will be marked by the arrival of a new depression that will be in the final phase of its “life cycle”🇧🇷 Abundant cloud cover is expected, with the country being watered from north to south. However, this low pressure area will be practically restricted to mainland Portugal. Light rain is expected, occasionally moderate, moving in a northwest-southeast trajectory. It will start in Minho at midnight and end at algarvepouring rain all over our geography all day long.
This week mainland Portugal will move from a variable weather state, with sun, clouds and showers, to a final stretch more covered by rain, especially south of the Tagus.
On Thursday (01) it will have practically dissipated from Portuguese territory, however, in the early hours of the morning on Thursday (01) it may still rain in Baixo Alentejo and Algarve. The remaining hours of the first day of December will be marked by greater meteorological stability, with clear or clear skies north of the Tagus, and cloudy skies south of this river🇧🇷 The environment remains quite cool, with the largest of the district capitals registering a minimum of less than 10 ºC. On Friday (02) there will be a continuity of stable weather, mostly sunny and cool🇧🇷
And for the weekend, more rain on the way to Portugal?
From Saturday (03) another pressure system, much more active, long and deep, will leave a front that will leave more rain, a little throughout the geography. Due to the positioning of the depression and its respective front, this time, the rain will be more abundant and persistent south of the Tagus, happy for a rather generous joy of precipitation in the Algarve – a region chronically subjected by drybut very vulnerable to flooding and flash floods.
However, over the weekend, other secondary centers may be generated, leaving it rained locally moderately from north to south of mainland Portugal, also during the day of Sunday (04)🇧🇷 It is necessary to take into account that the Iberian Peninsula will be under a cyclogenetic areaIt cannot be ruled out that other low-pressure systems of smaller depth and dimension could develop nearby, which would expand the rain to more distant points of the Iberian geography.
