Theatre, music, video clips, rallies and manifestos for equality in Bajo Aragón for 25N
The representation of the play Dones was this Friday in Alcañiz the epicenter of the commemoration of 25N, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Numerous towns in Lower Aragon joined this demand with rallies, concerts, manifesto readings and video clip presentations to show their rejection of this social scourge unbecoming of a civilized and modern society.
Dozens of people gathered at the Alcañiz municipal theater to attend one of the main awareness-raising and vindication activities programmed this year by the City Council: the performance of the play Dones in which the Cornia company reflects on various contexts and events vital in which violence against women is shown with greater clarity and impact.
Culture will continue to set the agenda for this 25N in the Bajo Aragonese capital this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at the Centro Joven, where the Ketekalles group will present a protest concert with a prior poetry recital by Levadura. The invitations will be available again at the Alcañiz Tourist Office, with free admission until full capacity is reached.
As was the case on Friday, the Youth Center and its surroundings were this Saturday the scene of a series of games, activities and gymkhanas for equality, with the aim of reflecting and raising awareness against sexist violence in these days of protests whose organization is also Commanded by the Bajo Aragón Region and the Bajo Aragón Feminista Association. In addition, hundreds of pens, pencils and school supplies specifically designed for this 25N were distributed among the educational centers of the city. Finally, four vinyls with slogans in favor of equality have been placed in the windows of as many Alcañizan municipal facilities (Library, Liceo, Sports Center and Youth Center), in a campaign that the Teruel Provincial Council replicates in the rest of the Province.
“The institutions have the obligation to continue working so that these messages of equality and eradication of sexist violence continue to be present in society,” explained the Councilor for Equality of the Alcañiz City Council, María Milián. “Transmitting these values helps girls and boys to eradicate this violence when they are adults, since they are the future of our society,” explained the Councilor for Children and Youth, Susana Mene. Hence the choice of the Youth Center as a priority setting.
conscientious actions
Before the performance of the play Dones, the organizing entities read the claim manifesto of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces for this 25N, a text that recalls that in the year 2000 the UN General Assembly designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, an anniversary with which governments, international organizations, entities and civil society are invited to get involved and coordinate actions that raise public awareness against this scourge.
There have been more than 1,160 women murdered by their partner or ex-partner since there was a record in 2003, recalls the text. “These are unaffordable losses in an advanced and modern society. We are facing a matter of State, public health and a serious attack on Human Rights. We have an undeniable reality before us that challenges all of us to take firm action in favor of the eradication of violence against women and of the social attitudes that tolerate it, justify it or even trivialize it; we must intensify efforts to combat male chauvinism and condemn all attitudes, practices and behaviors that condone and reproduce male chauvinistic violence”, they stressed.
In other Bajo Aragonese towns, such as Alcorisa, groups of citizens gathered in front of the town halls to show their rejection of gender violence. The mayor, Miguel Iranzo, made a commitment in line with the manifesto to renew the commitment of the local institution to collaborate and promote local strategies aimed at eliminating violence against women. Likewise, the AMAS Rurales association organized yesterday afternoon a 6-kilometre hiking march to the place where a woman from Alcoris was murdered as a victim of gender violence in the second half of the 20th century.
For its part, the Matarraña region commemorated 25N in Valjunquera, with the presentation of the video clip Su reflejo, by singer-songwriter Cad Mc (Mario Caviedes). It was recorded with the collaboration of the people who participated in the video clip workshop held in all the towns of the region during the last two months. Later, the artist offered a concert and there was a tasting of vegan tapas with local products.
In Andorra, in the morning there was an information table and material and information on the promotion of equality were distributed in all towns. At 6:00 p.m., in Plaça del Regallo, a rally and reading of the manifesto took place. The video For them, for all was screened and the women’s regional table invited people to look at the silhouettes that in all municipalities display and pay homage to the victims of gender violence and feminicide murdered during the year.
The activities in Andorra will continue from December 1 to 22 with the exhibition Advertising against gender violence, image and word to raise awareness, in the courtyard room of the House of Culture of Andorra. Under the title Full-blown Revolution, Alloza, Ariño, Ejulve and Oliete will address the stigma of menstruation in a gathering.
Music in Bajo Martín
For its part, the Comarca del Bajo Martín read the manifesto, in the morning in Híjar and in the afternoon in La Puebla de Híjar. In Samper de Calanda, Toyo Gabarrús offered the concert Mujeres EnCantadas, exploring the feminine universe, describing what true love has to be, qualifying different situations where women are subjected to abuse, contempt and violence.
On the 28th the Escalera a la igualdad activity will be held in Albalate and on December 2, in Urrea de Gaén, there will be an Impro-love by Teatro Indigesto, a show that through humor and improvisation tries to raise awareness about the problem of gender violence.
