Slovakia honored the victims of the famine in Ukraine. The Russians will pay for it, declared the representative of Kyiv
Russia will pay for all the victims of the Stalinist famine and for the current crimes in Ukraine. On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Ukrainian national tragedy, in which millions of people died in the 1930s, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s boss, Andriy Jermak, said this today.
The head of the Slovak Department of Diplomacy, Rastislav Káčer, honored the memory of these victims today.
Up to six million victims
During the famine – in Ukraine known as Holodomor – according to historians’ estimates, 3.5 to 6 million Ukrainians perished between 1932 and 1933 during the reign of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.
The disaster was primarily caused by the harsh policy of the communist regime and the confiscation of local residents’ grain and livestock. Some countries of the world, as well as some historians, can be considered a deliberately induced genocide. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community to recognize the famine as genocide.
“The Russians will pay for all the victims of the famine and will be considered today’s crimes,” Telegram Jermak wrote on the network. Today, Ukrainians will honor the memory of the victims of the famine by lighting candles, and a national minute of silence is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CET.
According to the Ukrainská pravda portal, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Ukraine’s international partners to recognize the famine as a genocide of the Ukrainian nation and to prevent further war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide by Russia.
“The goal of Russia’s genocidal war of invasion is no different from the genocide of 1932-1933 – the destruction of the Ukrainian nation and its statehood. By continuing terrorist attacks on critical infrastructure, the destruction of historical and cultural heritage, and the forcible transportation of Ukrainian children to Russian territory, the Russian Federation is waging a war against Ukrainian identity “, the ministry said.
Slovakia expressed its condolences
Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rastislav Káčer spoke to the victims of the famine on behalf of Slovakia.
“Although the suffering during the famine was immense, it cannot break the spirit of the Ukrainian nation. We will see similar courage of Ukrainians today, despite the fact that they are facing military aggression, deportations and the destruction of their property,” emphasized Foreign Minister Káčer, adding that Russia cannot cope with the past. of the Soviet dictatorship and again I use hunger as a weapon.
“Once again, it is innocent people who are threatened by a lack of food, especially in the Middle East or Africa,” declared the minister.
He repeated that the civilized world condemns such actions. According to Slovak diplomacy, the important thing is to make every effort to prevent a tragedy from happening. We recalled the role of the grain agreement, which includes the export of food from Ukrainian ports, or the role of the European Union in launching the so-called solidarity corridors that also lead through Slovakia.
