Patrick Guillou : “Le fait d’avoir été entraîneur adjoint à Bordeaux et à Wolfsburg, m’a apporté de la crédibilité et un regard différent sur l’analyse tactique des matchs”
On Pure Media, patrick guillou, former assistant coach of Willy Sagnol at the Girondins de Bordeaux, spoke about his current position, namely consultant for beIN Sports. Had he thought, when he was a player, of becoming a consultant one day?
“No. Not at all. After my career, I studied. I have a bac+5. arrived thanks to Jean-Guy Wallemme and Michel Denisot. My last club in pro, I was in Rouen, in the team of Jean-Guy. He had been dismissed and was then a consultant at Canal + to talk about football in Germany. When Jean-Guy left the channel, he whispered my name to Michel Denisot who recruited me. The first match I commented on was a Bayern-Dortmund. Year after year, I improved by reading a lot. I also think that having been an assistant coach at Bordeaux and Wolfsburg gave me recovery and a different perspective on the tactical analysis of matches. Today, I enjoy commenting matches! I remain passionate about football and the beautiful game […] If I see myself commenting all my life? It’s hard to say that. I don’t know the opportunities I could have on the right or on the left, to be able to do something else. With everything I’ve been through in the last few years, I’m focused on the happiness I can have every day. I am not in a career logic. I don’t want to hook up to take someone’s place. I still had a mother who brought me a lot of values. If things are meant to happen, they will. They always happen naturally. I know very well that I am privileged. There are many former players who dream of being consultants and many people dream of being in our place. It’s not demago, even if I don’t care what people think of me. I savor every day how lucky I am”.
