The Little Switzerland ski area opens for the season
Little Switzerland Ski Resort welcomed customers again on Sunday for the 2022-2023 winter season. Hundreds of skiers and snowboarders showed up when the doors opened, ready to hit the slopes. “It’s amazing that Little Switzerland put this together. I mean, two weeks ago it was 70 degrees here,” said Bill Potter, an avid skier. The Little Switzerland crews have been working around the clock to create the perfect base for opening day. “We chose to wait rather than open yesterday (Saturday) to take advantage of the really cold weather we’ve been experiencing over the past 36 hours, which turned out to be a really good move for us and we’ve come up with one really good base,” he told Mike Schmitz, co-owner of Little Switzerland. Currently, about 60% of the runs are open to the public, but Schmitz told WISN News that crews are already working to pack snow on other hills and expect to run at full capacity soon. Schmitz said they always run their snow machines when the temperature is below 28 degrees. “We do it as fast and aggressively as soon as Mother Nature allows us,” he said. The resort is now open seven days a week for the season.
