Jornal de Leiria – Portugal competes in the final Pousos of the Wheelchair Handball World and European Championships
The Pousos pavilion, in Leiria, will host this afternoon, at 6 pm, the final of the World and European Wheelchair Handball Championships. And Portugal will be at stake.
The national team, which is captained by Leiriense João Jerónimo, defeated India in the semi-final, qualifying for the title game. Ahead, you will have the team from the Netherlands.
As happened throughout the championship, the final challenge has free entry and will be broadcast live on EHFtv and handball tv.
Leiria marks competition
In addition to hosting the competition, Leiria has been represented on the field in the fight for the Portuguese victory.
In addition to the captain of the national team, the top scorer of the Europeans in the sport, among the 16 athletes called up by the national team are Iderlindo Gomes, Nuno Nogueira, João Pedro and Maria Albertina Relvas, all players from the Leiria national team of the Portuguese Disabled Association (APD Leiria). Marco Francisco, also from this association, was on the squad but was forced to drop out due to an injury.
Danilo Ferreira also invited Diana Machado, Pedro Marques, Ricardo Queirós, Rodrigo Vieira and Adriano Mendes, from APD do Porto, Filipe Cerqueira from CMRRC – Rovisco Pais, Euclides Soares from Clube Naval Setubalense and Tiago Cantigas and Rui Rodrigues from CPSB Messines/Algarve.
The Portuguese technical team includes the Leiria mechanic Manuel Sousa, the physiotherapist Daniela Faria and the technical secretary Miguel Fonseca.
The national wheelchair handball team was present in all the European finals of the sport, winning a gold medal (2018, Pousos) and three silver medals (2015, 2016, 2019).
