Man in Switzerland falls into 720 degrees Celsius hot aluminum tub and miraculously survives
A man miraculously survived after falling into a tub of molten aluminum at a factory in Switzerland, police said. The temperature inside the vessel was 720 degrees Celsius, and the electrician fell through an opening in the structure, they said in a Facebook post. The incident happened on Wednesday last week. The 25-year-old was part of a team of two sent to the site for some work on the blast furnace, but one of them was struck by the unfortunate incident.
Police said the man suffered severe burns and injuries in the accident. They also posted a photo of the tub where the accident happened on Facebook.
According to a British Express report, the young man was working on the blast furnace with his colleague at the time of the incident.
The factory where the accident happened is in St. Gallen in north-eastern Switzerland. His identity has not been disclosed.
Police also said on Facebook that the electrician was immersed in the aluminum up to his knees but was able to pull himself out.
Emergency services were called to the factory to tend to the young man’s injuries and he was flown to a local hospital. Despite his severe burns, the electrician is said to have made a full recovery.
The police are now investigating the incident and trying to find out the background.
A 2015 study found that molten aluminum is “one of the most common causes of burns.” Around 60 percent of burn injuries caused by metal are due to aluminum, it said.
