Great Priory of Portugal held a National Chapter in the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz
The Great Priory of Portugal of the Ordo Supremus Militaris Templi Hierosolymitani held, last weekend, the XXXIV National Chapter at the Auditorium João Rosado Correia of the Convento da Orada, in the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz.
This ceremony was supported by the Municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz and brought together the organization’s Knights, Dames, Squires and Postulants.
The Ordo Supremus Militaris Templi Hierosolymitani, or Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem, is the successor to the Order of the Temple established in 19th century Paris and is inspired by the traditions and ideals of the Templars, a military and monastic order founded by Hugh de Payens in 1118.
Members of this secular and ecumenical organization are men and women of faith who accept a modern rule of Christian life inspired by the Rule of Bernardo de Clairvaux, the spiritual father of the medieval Templars, and must demonstrate high ethics and moral principles and follow the traditions of the Temple.
The Grand Priory of Portugal of the Ordo Supremus Militaris Templi Hierosolymitani, whose members are sacred all over the world, follows the ideals of the Order of the Temple of Jerusalem and aims, among others, to perpetuate the noble ideals of honor, integrity and beneficence, to promote Christian unity and the approximation of churches and of all faiths in the world, to assist social institutions and to help needy, poor, sick, indigent, persecuted, illiterate and mistreated people, as well as defenders of the innocently accused.
The organization also aims to develop and maintain chivalric activities and projects in defense of the social order based on Christian values, to promote the spiritual development of its members and to cooperate with scientific, religious, civic and social societies, as well as with all others that share the same principles and beliefs of the institution.
