Far-right Republicans in the House of Representatives opposed aid to Ukraine
Far-right Republicans in the House of Representatives led by a campaign activist former US President Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” Marjorie Taylor Green said they will fight against aid to Ukraine.
About this writes CNN.
Green said she initiated the vote on the resolution, which would require President Joe Biden’s administration to release all documents related to security assistance that has already been diverted to Ukraine.
This application did not receive support from members of the Republican leadership, although they knew about the press conference. The far-right also seized on House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy’s earlier pledge not to give Ukraine any more “blank checks,” though McCarthy later clarified that he simply wanted to ensure stronger control over “any federal dollars.”
“Is Ukraine now the 51st state of the United States of America and what position does Zelenskyi hold in our government?” Green said.
“I am not voting for one dollar of Ukraine,” added House of Representatives member Matt Getz.
Although the anti-Ukrainian wing of the party is only a part of the Republican Party, this group can have leverage in the form of a small fortune, the publication adds.
CNN predicts that Republicans gain control of the House of Representativesbut their large one will be narrow.
