Munich today – news from November 17th, 2022 – Munich
Adolf-Kolping-Strasse is a hidden corner in downtown Munich, behind the Mathäser cinema and the former Kaufhof am Stachus. There used to be a parking lot there. There aren’t too many other reasons to come to the street, apart from the Kolping House, of course. In a few years there should be more going on in Adolf-Kolping-Strasse. The Austrian company Imfarr plans to move the parking spaces underground and build a commercial and office building on top.
It is just one of many large real estate projects that Imfarr has accumulated in Munich over the past two years, including the “Highlight Towers” in Parkstadt Schwabing, the “Elementum” office building in the Bahnhofsviertel and the Plan, in the east of Munich To build a technology center with thousands of jobs. Imfarr is also interested in the old Kaufhof am Stachus.
What kind of company is it that has spent more than a billion euros in Munich (with partner investors) in a short time and has thus become one of the largest players in the local real estate market? What parallels are there to René Benko’s Signa, who – it sometimes seems – will soon own half of the city centre? What role do the contacts between Austria’s former chancellor and Imfarr co-owner Werner Faymann and Mayor Dieter Reiter play? I pursued these and other questions in this story (SZ Plus).
I hope this gives you a few insights into the Munich real estate market and I wish you a nice end of the week.
