Government Councilor Manuel Frick proposes an umbrella agreement for cross-border home office
Government Councilor Manuel Frick received the German-speaking Minister of Social Affairs in Liechtenstein on Thursday, November 17th. The delegations were led by Federal Councilor Alain Berset (Switzerland), Federal Minister Johannes Rauch (Austria), State Secretary Rolf Schmachtenberg (Germany) and First Government Councilor Abilio Fernandes (Luxembourg).
The program started with the working meeting in Mauren, where the social ministers first dealt with the topic of working from home. After the keynote speech by Doris Quader from the Stiftung Zukunft.li, the challenge of working from home for cross-border commuters and possible solutions were discussed in particular. For Government Councilor Manuel Frick, this topic is of great importance, especially since Liechtenstein is heavily dependent on cross-border commuters. The current special solution, which was introduced in connection with the pandemic, was extended this week until mid-2023.
Liechtenstein would like to contact bilateral solutions that apply independently of this special solution. Government Councilor Manuel Frick introduced a possible umbrella agreement between the German-speaking countries, which, according to the final declaration of the ministerial meeting, should be examined.
The second topic of the working meeting was social security against the background of higher inflation and high energy prices. The social affairs ministers discussed the challenges posed by current developments, the serious measures and the advantages and limitations of state intervention.
After the work talks by Prime Minister Daniel Risch, the delegations will be invited to a reception in the government building. The program of the meeting of social ministers was rounded off by a tour of the current exhibition at the art museum “Candida Höfer. Liechtenstein” and an official dinner given by Government Councilor Manuel Frick.
