By Sabyasachi Chowdhury: Spain, on Thursday, November 17, defeated Jordan 3-1 in the FIFA World Cup warm-up match at the Amman International Stadium.
Ansu Fati’s goal in the 13th minute gave Spain a much-needed lead in the first half. Gavi and Nico Williams then scored in the 56th and 84th minutes respectively to make it a one-sided affair for Spain.
Hamza-Al-Dardour scored in the 92nd minute, but it was only to soften the blow for Jordan.
Sweden beat Mexico 2-1 at the Estadi Montilivi in Girona after Mattias Svanberg scored in the 84th minute. After a goalless first half, Marcus Rohden opened the scoring for Sweden in the 54th minute after Alexis Vega equalized for Mexico.
However, Svanberg’s early goal in the dying stages of the encounter saved the day for Mexico.
Canada defeated Japan 2-1 at Al Maktoum Stadium after Lucas Cavallini scored from a penalty in the 95th minute. Yuki Soma gave Japan the lead in the ninth minute, after which they held on to the lead at the end of the first half.
Then it was Steven Vitoria, who gave Canada the equaliser, after which Cavallini was taking them past the goal line.
Morocco secured a comprehensive 3-0 win over Georgia at the Sharjah Stadium. Goals from Youssef En-Nesyri, Hakim Ziyech and Sofiane Boufal took Morocco to a morale-boosting victory.
Ghana, meanwhile, handed Switzerland a 2-0 defeat at the Baniyas Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Mohammed Salisu and Antonie Semenyo scored to give Ghana the triumph.
The match between Iraq and Costa Rica could not take place at the Basra International Stadium. The game had to be abandoned due to a passport problem.
“The match against Iraq was cancelled,” Costa Rica’s confederation was quoted as saying in a statement.
