Complaints about local trains are piling up
timeline
Complaints about the Salzburg local railway have been increasing recently. Delays, overcrowded trains or insufficient rail replacement traffic are criticized. The complaints are directly related to effective remedial work.
These have been carried out along the route between Lamprechtshausen and Oberndorf (Flachgau) for the past six months.
One is right in the middle, but still only at the beginning, said local railway operations manager Walter Stramitzer. The infrastructure of the local railway, which is 30 to 40 years old, is showing its age and the complete renovation will take another four to five years. “We’ll have to hold out until then,” says Stramitzer.
Especially a lot of criticism in commuter traffic
Especially at peak times in the morning there is not enough space for too many people in the buses in the rail replacement service. Complaints that have already been brought to the manager. “It’s not easy because we currently have an acute shortage of staff in both the bus and train sectors. It is very difficult to find people who still want to do this work as railway workers. We are looking for people and will also try to make the necessary measures bearable.
The train station in Bürmoos (Flachgau) is currently being renovated, which will take until 2023, according to Stramitzer. In addition, the section between Bürmoos and Oberndorf will be completely renewed. During this time, attempts are being made as best as possible to improve the timetable and capacities.
Relief through new railcars 2027
Stramitzer asks local railway customers to use the 15-minute trains between Oberndorf and Salzburg at peak times. The manager was convinced that the new railcars would bring decisive relief. They should be used from 2027.
