A former collaborator of the municipal majority of Toulouse sentenced for homophobic insult
The Paris Criminal Court condemned a former collaborator of the municipal majority of Toulouse for homophobic insult against Antoine Maurice. The president of the opposition group Toulouse Écologiste, Solidaire & Citoyenne welcomes this condemnation.
A former collaborator of the municipal majority group in Toulouse has just been sentenced for homophobic insult. The facts date back to June 26, 2020. A few days before the second round of the municipal elections, this ex-collaborator of the group “Toulouse Ensemble” comments on an interview with François Piquemal on Facebook.
Addressing the latter, he wrote: “To vomit as ugly as your tarlouze at the top of the list”. As a reminder, François Piquemal was then running mate of Antoine Maurice, leader of Citizen Archipelago.
The former collaborator of the municipal majority declared guilty
Faced with these remarks, Antoine Maurice had filed a complaint against the former collaborator for “public insults because of sexual orientation”. This Wednesday, November 16, the Paris Criminal Court declared him guilty.
He considers: “These proposals are offensive to Antoine Maurice, within the meaning of the aforementioned article 29 paragraph 2 and the target because of his sexual orientation”. The former collaborator of Jean-Luc Moudenc is thus sentenced to a suspended fine of 500 euros and to pay the elected official 800 euros for non-pecuniary damage.
Antoine Maurice welcomes this conviction for homophobic insult
“I am delighted that justice was able to condemn this action of the cachet campaign led by Jean-Luc Moudenc and his teams by recognizing the homophobic nature of this publication of the employee of his group”, declares Antoine Maurice in a press release.
The president of the municipal opposition group Toulouse Ecologist, Solidarity & Citizen adds that this decision reinforces its “ determination not to give in to homophobia which has no place in our rule of law as recalled by justice”.
