The French group Thales leaves Germany to relocate near Milan
Thales has closed its Ditzigen site in Germany in favor of the expansion of the Gorgonzola site near Milan where production has been relocated. At the end of the day, 122 additional jobs.
The French giant is investing in Milan and its region. The production of the Ditzigen site in Germany is relocated to Gorgonzola at the gates of Milan (near the Naviglio de la Martesana). The Lombard site thus becomes the only European center of the French electronics group – specializing in aerospace, defence, security and land transport – where air navigation and surveillance systems are assembled and tested. The systems at Gorgonzola serve customers in 170 countries and handle more than 70% of global air traffic (excluding the United States).
An investment of 50 million euros and 122 jobs created
To achieve this, Thalès has invested 50 million euros to expand the Gorgonzola site and double the staff. Some 122 new jobs have been created (including a third of engineers) to be added to the 110 already existing on the site, with a total of 13 nationalities represented. The Milan site is part of a productive basin rich in engineering skills in Italy, in particular thanks to the presence of Politecnico Milano with which Thales is working on setting up research programs.
With double the number of staff, the Italian site is becoming crucial for Thales’s turnover, which reached 16.2 billion euros in 2021. The first challenge to be accomplished will be that of winning the call for tenders overseas. Atlantic to supply all airports in the United States with new radars.
