Increase country and city: Important step for new dog house
The Tyrolean state parliament has unanimously decided on additional funding of EUR 200,000 for the new dog house to be built at the Mentlberg animal shelter in Innsbruck, so that the additional costs of the construction caused by the economy can be insured. In total, the state of Tyrol is providing a total of 800,000 euros in funding for the new building of the animal protection association for Tyrol 1881.
INNSBRUCK. With the decision of the state parliament and the commitment of the city of Innsbruck, the urgently needed realization of the new dog kennel at the Mentlberg animal shelter seems very likely.
“With the new construction, the reception and accommodation options for confiscated abandoned dogs will be significantly improved. There are currently three dog rooms in the Mentlberg animal shelter, in which the dogs are housed in individual boxes. Some of the halls were built in the 1960s and are therefore in dire need of renovation.”LA GR Christoph Appler represents the urgent need for a new dog house.

New dog house
“A total of eleven dog rooms are to be built in the new dog house, three of which form a closed quarantine area, and there is also space for a dog bathroom and a feed kitchen. In addition, the building also includes a multi-purpose room for consultations and training events as well as ancillary and storage rooms. All dog rooms will have their own outdoor area, so that the four-legged friends can freely switch between indoor and outdoor areas.
The size of the areas also enables species-appropriate group housing. The outside areas of the rooms can be opened up to a larger exercise area, so that the dogs can socialize further. A training area is being built in the eastern part of the site, where the animals can be used,” Appler explains about the function of the new building.
financial needs
The originally forecast financial requirement was 1.5 million euros. The price increases caused by inflation and the corresponding developments in the construction industry lead to an additional need for funds to cover the construction costs. “After carrying out project optimization and reviewing the increased construction costs, there is now an additional funding volume of EUR 200,000, in part from the state,” says Appler.
contribution of the city
“The city of Innsbruck stands and still stands for the new building of the dog house and will also make its financial contribution. A draft resolution for the municipal council to adjust the index of the construction costs for the new dog house is in preparation. This funding is increased proportionately to the support provided by the state of Tyrol. We will therefore increase the subsidy that has already been decided from 300,000 euros to 400,000 euros.”, i.e. the vice mayor responsible for veterinary affairs and animal welfare.
