Pianist students from Debrecen are among the country’s elite
The students of the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen were awarded at a piano competition organized by the country’s higher institutions dealing with music education. ZK’s talents finished among the best in several categories, the university announced.
The Keyboard Department of the Debrecen Faculty of Music and the Conservatory Foundation jointly organized the national competition in mid-November on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the birth of Claude Achille Debussy, to which a total of nineteen competitors came. The university students from Debrecen stood out from the field classified as exceptional by the professional jury, the students of ZK were able to stand on the imaginary podium in almost every category.
– In previous years, we often organized national piano competitions, and in the past three decades, talents have had the opportunity to show their preparation and musical skills every year. These competitions are very useful, because the competitions are preceded by such an intensive preparation period, during which you have to learn the repertoire as perfectly as possible and be able to play it at the concerts as well. Here, not only the awards are important, but also the development, which lasts from the initial phase of learning the play to the performance on stage. Such competitions strengthen and supplement the faculty’s instrumental education, and the quality of the teachers’ professional work can be perfectly measured by them – pointed out Attila Pless, general deputy dean of the Faculty of Music, head of the Keyboard Department.
In the competition organized on the occasion of the Debussy anniversary, Barbara Oláh, a fourth-year student of DE ZK, won the first prize in the undivided teacher training category (OMA), while Janka Fóris, a first-year student, won second place in the bachelor’s education category (BA), and also earned a special award from the rector of DE . Ábel Catona, a 3rd-year student, finished third in the same category.
