The iconic work of the Italian master is on display until the end of December at La Faïencerie de Bordeaux.
When the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican invites itself to Bordeaux. After England, the United States and Australia, the event exhibition takes up residence at La Faïencerie until the end of the year.
The flood, the last judgement, the original sin and of course the creation of Adam, this exhibition allows you to see Michelangelo’s masterpiece from a human height (1475-1564) which adorns the vault of the Sistine Chapel.
These life-size replicas are above all an opportunity to approach the gaze, to appreciate the details and the technique of the maestro. “It allows you to project yourself a little, it’s a first step towards the works of Michelangelo”, rejoices a father with his children. The 34 frescoes of the master of the Italian Renaissance are reproduced thanks to the photographic technique. “They were photographed and printed in very high definition and very good quality on very specific fabric to have scale reproductions”, says Alice Würtz, the project manager.
Michelangelo, his art, his technique, his life, are explained via an application accessible on smartphone. Comments that replace the work in the context of the time with some anecdotes about the artist. Thus we learn that the artist was not a hygiene genius!
The course is a 360-degree dive into these iconic scenes from the Bible. “This fresco we raise our heads to look at it but it is much closer to us than what we could have in the real Sistine Chapel which is under 18 meters high and we can especially see the expressions of the faces of the characters and the details that the painter wanted to highlight”, says Alice Würtz again.
