Avignon tramway: funding for phase 2 completed
With the agreement for grants of €7.83 million from the State and €8 million from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, the financial closure of tranche 2 of the single Avignon tramway line is closed. The whole project amounts to 56,605 M€. Greater Avignon will launch the preliminary project study (AVP) in the first half of 2023. Local authorities are currently working on the linear work phase partly complex. The extension of the line starts from the current terminus of the Saint-Michel rampart at the edge of the Remparts near the police station to continue its tour of the old center from the outside, then takes the Daladier bridge in front of the Oulle gate to join the Ile Piot park and ride car park with 1,100 spaces. Ongoing studies also relate to the reorganization of the Chron’hop bus lines, some of which run on their own site.
Avignon: the public transport revolution underway
Other work on the drawing board, the organization of the construction site of the complete renovation of the alleys of Oulle between the ramparts and the Rhône transformed into a vast esplanade preparing a reduction of the road network for cars in favor of soft roads and spaces for pedestrians. Greater Avignon is committing €65 million to support this city project, which has already built a greenway along the river, currently being extended with a 300-meter footbridge overlooking the Rhône towards the TGV station. At the same time, studies focus onarrival on the tour of the Remparts du Chron’hop from the future Les Angles relay car park, which will cross the Europe bridge at the end of 2024 on a reserved lane. The expectations are now for the commissioning of phase 2, which should take place at the very end of 2025 or in the course of 2026. SPL Tecelys will carry out all the works for the extension of the tram and the future Place de l’Oulle.
