FC Salzburg is covered by a free Red Bull contract – football
Even after the death of company founder Dietrich Mateschitz, Red Bull Salzburg can rely on the support of its most important financier.
They have a single contract with Red Bull, said an APA club spokesman on the sidelines of Wednesday’s Champions League play-off against AC Milan (9 p.m.). LIVE Ticker) in Milan. Similar signals can also be taken from Red Bull’s soccer division in Leipzig.
In Salzburg, Red Bull is only a sponsor, not the operator. All special rights of Red Bull GmbH were removed from the statutes in 2015 – ten years after the takeover of the club by the Mateschitz Group. Among other things, this should ensure that both Salzburg and RB Leipzig can take part in UEFA European Cup competitions at the same time. Red Bull is the main shareholder of the German Bundesliga club.
FC Red Bull Salzburg GmbH, as the club is called in the company register, has spent more than 100 million euros per season almost continuously over the past five years. Due to a significant excess of transfer income over transfer expenses, the series champion has practically sustained itself in recent years. According to the annual financial statements as of June 30, 2021, equity is believed to be EUR 89.4 million. However, all of this is based on the millions that Red Bull has invested in Salzburg and the academy in Liefering.
Leipzig also “does not fear any changes in support from Red Bull”
In Leipzig, the beverage company recently paid significantly higher sums. Red Bull holds 99 percent of the shares in the German cup winner. In order to comply with the 50+1 rule of the German Bundesliga, however, the majority of the votes are held by the club. Red Bull founded the club in 2009 when it took over the license from SSV Markranstädt in the fifth division.
In Saxony, too, major financial repercussions are not expected after Mateschitz’s death. “I do not expect or fear any changes in the support from Red Bull. We will continue what has been built and developed here with the same passion and motivation in the future,” says Managing Director Oliver Mintzlaff of the German magazine “Sport Bild” (Wednesday -Output). He didn’t get any signals that anything was going to change.
What’s next for Red Bull’s sporting commitments?
Red Bull announced the death of company founder Mateschitz a week and a half ago. The billionaire was 78 years old.
The Styrian also made the Red Bull brand big with his involvement in sports. In football, teams in New York and Brazil will speak alongside Salzburg and Leipzig. In Formula 1, Red Bull is represented by two teams with the world champion racing team Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri, and in ice hockey with clubs in Salzburg and Munich.
Since it was founded in the mid-1980s, the company has been particularly active in extreme sports and with the support of individual athletes. How Red Bull’s sports commitments will continue after Mateschitz’s death is unclear in many areas.
Mateschitz was managing director, but not the sole owner of Red Bull. The majority of the shares and numerous decision-making powers lie with the Thai entrepreneurial family Yoovidhya, which has not yet commented on the future.
