A seasonal survey. Monday, October 31, 2022, SeLoger.comthe group specializing in the distribution of real estate advertisements, unveiled its study called “Are the French ready to live near a graveyard ? »
More than one in two French people do not want to live near a cemetery
In this study, SeLoger announces that “the view of a cemetery represents an obstacle to the purchase or rental of a property for more than one in two French people (54%). This reluctance is even more marked among future buyers (64%)”.
“It is in particular the feeling of a sad atmosphere (41%) and the symbolism of death (37%) that push them to choose to live further away from cemeteries.”
On the other hand, among the French who would not mind living near a cemetery, 53% of them appreciate the calm, 22% the unobstructed view and 12% believe that it is also a good way to have cheaper housing (12%). For this last point, is this really the case in Toulouse?
Savings in Marengo/Jolimont
In its study, SeLoger is interested in Terre Cabade cemeteries (and its two extensions: Salonika and Heredia), Sea bream cross, Lafourguette, Rapas, St. Simon, lardenne, Pouvourville and The land.
And it is true that sometimes business can be done near these eternal resting places. The most remarkable is in the district of Marengo/Jolimont.
For example, buying an apartment on the side of the Hérédia cemetery saves 32% on the price of an apartment (average price per m² of an apartment around the cemetery: 2,811 euros). For a house, the savings would be 21% (average price per m² of a house around the cemetery: 3,928 euros).
Still at Marengo/Jolimont, we see the same thing on the side of the Salonika cemetery with a saving of 21% for an apartment and seven% for a house.
You can also save money:
- Saint-Simon cemetery: -3% for an apartment, 0% for a house,
- Croix-Daurade cemetery: 0% for an apartment, –1% for a house.
Blazing prices in Lardenne
On the other hand, near certain cemeteries, prices soar. If it is possible to save 1% on the price of an apartment located near the cemetery of Rapas (Fer-à-Cheval), the price of a house tends to 8% increase.
These price increases are also visible on the Lardenne side. For an apartment 100 m from the cemetery, it is necessary to count +10% on the price. This is +4% for a house.
Other price differences:
- Terre Cabade Cemetery: +2% for an apartment, 0% for a house,
- Lafourguette cemetery: +1% for an apartment, +8% for a house,
- Pouvourville cemetery: +1% for an apartment, -4% for a house,
- Lalande cemetery: +7% for an apartment, -1% for a house.
So, for or against living next to a cemetery?
