VU pushes for health care reform – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – The VU parliamentary group submitted an application for a health care reform on Monday because financing and adequate care should also be guaranteed in the future.
“The government is thus instructed to also consult various creative models from near and far abroad, to determine their strengths and weaknesses and to find a viable path for Liechtenstein that guarantees quality and cost-efficiency in the healthcare system,” says the media release from late Monday afternoon.
Particular attention should also be paid to preventive measures. In addition, it is essential to think of new financing models, “so that the increasing costs are not passed on to the hump of the premium payers alone”.
Added to this are the rising costs of demographic change, technical progress and the increase in the number of insured. “If the state continues to contribute to the costs of compulsory health insurance for the other insured persons, the state is increasingly withdrawing from social responsibility,” criticizes the VU.
Demographic change not only leads to increased demand for medical and nursing services, but also to serious recruitment problems for specialists in this area.
It is also becoming apparent that the shift from inpatient to outpatient will reduce healthcare costs. “This saving, although economically sensible, leads to higher premiums for the insured because the state costs are only shared in the inpatient area. Subsequent processes must also be taken into account in order to obtain full cost truth,” emphasizes the insurance company.
