Peta plant bloody protest against the Hubertus fair in Munich
An activist with an animal mask and skin-colored underwear, one in a priest’s costume with a gun and a holy water bowl full of blood: This is what the animal protection organization PETA wants against one on Thursday in Munich Hubertus fair demonstrate. In addition, other people would carry signs with the slogan “No blessing for animal murder” in front of St. Peter’s Church in the city center, the organization announced on Monday. The reason for this is a Hubertus fair, which, according to Peta, is mainly hunters visited and often forms the prelude to “cruel driven hunts”.
In advance, a letter had been sent to the church to distance itself from “the violent masses” in the future. “During driven hunts, wild animals often flee with shot bones and hanging out innards – many of them die slowly and painfully,” said action coordinator Jens Vogt. Holding a service that symbolically gives the blessing to hunters sends a completely wrong signal. “Churches must stand up for the preservation of creation, not for its destruction. The Hubertusmesse also fails to recognize that Saint Hubertus went from being a hunter to a staunch opponent of the hunt.”
Tradition has it that God revealed himself to Hubertus von Liège, born in 655, during a hunt on Good Friday in the form of a stag with a shining cross. This motif is also the logo of a well-known herbal liqueur. Memorial Day of Saint Hubertus is November 3rd. He is considered the patron saint of hunters, marksmen, butchers and foresters. He is also invoked against dog bites and rabies in dogs. Another Jäger Patron is the Saint Eustace, who is especially revered as such in Bavaria and Austria. He is said to have experienced martyrdom with his family over 1,900 years ago and is one of the alleged ones 14 emergency workers. (tmg/KNA)
