The museums of Rouen bring out all their works dedicated to the body

The tenth season of Collection timein the main museums of the Réunion des Musées Métropolitains de Rouen Normandy (Seine Maritime)opened its doors to the public on October 28, 2022. These different exhibits having the body for the central axis are to be discovered until 2023, some being longer than others.
Le Temps des collections is a highlight of metropolitan cultural life that recalls the richness and variety of museum holdings. It makes it possible to unveil pieces that have never been shown before or to rediscover others. For this new season, five museums are each offering an exhibition on the theme of the body through remarkable pieces from the funds museums or loans. Highlighting the body, its representation and its influence in art.
Caravaggio in the spotlight
This time of collections revolves around a central monument: Caravaggio. A boostto discover at the Museum of Fine Arts until February 27, 2023.
This flagship exhibition offers a confrontation between two flagellations of Christ by the painter Michelangelo Merisi of Caravaggio, known as “Caravaggio”, that of Rouen (kept in the Museum of Fine Arts since 1955) and that of Naples. Other masterpieces representing this scene of flagellation are presented around two paintings by Caravaggio, which allows us to question more broadly the representation of this scene.
Not far away, we find the Fancy Ceramics, at the ceramics museum. We thus notice all that the terms used to designate the body and the ceramics modeled by the hand of man have in common: body, belly, neck, beak, collar… On view until March 6, 2023.
Flaubert, fashion, monkeys
Until May 21, 2023, the exhibition Flaubert, body and soulat the Flaubert and History of Medicine Museum, allows you to discover from a new angle Flaubert’s work and his life through the theme of the body thanks in particular to a partnership with the Natural History Museum. This is the first event set up by the Literary Pole of the Meeting of Metropolitan Museums which brings together the Flaubert Museum, the Flaubert Pavilion in Croisset and the birthplace of Pierre Corneille.
The fashion that shapes the body is exposed to the Corderie Valloisin Notre-Dame-de-Bondeville, until April 8, 2023. When fashion shapes the body(s)exhibition produced thanks to the collections of the Lady of Atours, shows the evolution of the female silhouette through fashion, and the fashions, which have conditioned the female body.
Finally, the fifth pole, La Fabrique des savoirs, at Elbeufoffers until April 8, 2023, the exhibition Clever as a monkey. It’s about a monkey history exploration in the West through the ages and through a selection of more than 200 works.
A partnership with the Christophe Gaillard gallery has enriched this tenth edition with an opening on contemporary art, with the presentation of the works of Rachel de Joode, at the Ceramics Museum, and Michel Journiac, at the Fine Arts Museum. arts.
