Casa do Dragão and passage through Portugal
From a universe that traveled the world to find ideal landscapes, “House of the Dragon” also left its mark on our country.
There is no doubt that afterWar of Thrones“It would be difficult to achieve an equal success, the truth is that “House of the Dragon” seems not to be afraid of this seemingly impossible task. The new HBO Max series, which debuted just this year, is already a true worldwide phenomenon, and not even Portugal escapade.
After breaking records with the first episode, the series returned to prominence with its finale earlier this week. The series became official the most watched title on HBO platforms in Portugalovertaking up to eighth season (final) of “Game of Thrones”.
And it seems that the love between Portugal and “House of the Dragon” is reciprocal. In the search for the most suitable locations to film in the first season of the series Portugal, the showrunners took into account and the new behind-the-scenes video even shows the passage through Portuguese lands (more specifically Monsanto, Idanha-a-Nova). For Ryan Condal, co-showrunner and screenwriter, the choice was easy enough,
“The trip to Portugal was unprecedented for Game of Thrones and even for the film industry in general. Therefore, there is a lot of Portugal to see on television. It’s a beautiful country and great for filming. When visiting Monsanto, in a mountain we found Pedra do Dragão. In the original series, Dragonstone was a coast of Northern Spain. There you could only see one facet of the island, the beach, but we needed the rest of the island, we needed a whole world. That’s what we found at the agility summit in Portugal.”
Miguel Sapochnikthe other co-showrunner and one of the directors of the season, Rei was even there on a whim but when he took the place beauty of the place, getting “jaw-dropped”. The protagonist herself, who filmed in Portugal, Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), was amazed to see so many kilometers around her on top of Mount Monsanto.
However, given the rumor of the series, it’s not clear that there will be any return planned for further Monsanto filming. And, with the season still starting filming at the beginning of next year, it is also open the possibility of the team choosing new locations in lus lands to integrate this fantasy world created by George RR Martin.
