Turkish media for Soltz’s visit to Athens: Mitsotakis attacked us once again

On Thursday (27.10.2022), Olaf Soltz made her first official visit to Greece since taking over the chancellorship in Germany. The statements made by the two leaders caused great irritation in Turkey.
Media in Turkey stand by what the Prime Minister said during the joint press conference with the Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz. They focus in particular on what Kyriakos Mitsotakis said about the Greek armed forces and that it is judged that the German Marder tanks should be directed to Evros and not to the islands.
The above clarification by Kyriakos Mitsotakis caused irritation in Turkey, even though it was clearly emphasized that the islands do not pose a threat to anyone. It is characteristic that the media reported on the issue that “Athens will send tanks to the border with Turkey” and that Soltz supported the Greek positions.
The Milliyet newspaper reports that “Greece is playing with fire”, while Sabah claims that “Greece continues with factory arrangements, blamed Turkey and Soltz supported Greek positions”.
The Haber Global television network reported: “The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, met with Mitsotakis in Athens and of course Turkey was also on the agenda. Soltz supported the positions of Athens which militarizes the islands against the international treaties. Mitsotakis says that the tanks you will see from Germany will be transported to Alexoupoli, which is located on the border with Turkey.”
He also said: “Mitsotakis once again attacked Turkey and claimed that the militarized islands are not a threat to anyone”.
