Toulouse. In Tabar, a building invaded by bed bugs
Halima Mohra is overwhelmed. This 34-year-old mother, in charge of four children aged 10 to 2, has been a tenant for ten years in a building at 19, rue de la Sarthe, in Tabar. Not only does she see no result in her request for an apartment with an additional bedroom for these children, but her accommodation has been affected for some time by an invasion of bedbugs: “We had never seen this, says – Since the renovation of the building, in other words, a fortnight, we have been invaded by bedbugs which infiltrate everywhere. A real scourge”. After alerting the lessor, SA Patrimoine Languedocienne, Halima Mohra’s apartment was processed. “For the moment it has no effect, deplores the young woman. The bedbugs are still there, everywhere, in the bedding, the sofa. Moreover, we had to empty the rooms concerned. We no longer have of furniture”.
Stéphanie Erales, director of rental and asset management at SA Patrimoine Languedocienne, explains that this tenant’s apartment has received a first classic treatment. “The service provider has two options for eradicating bed bugs, she assures. This one, which did not work, and another experimental, algae-based, apparently very effective, must be sprayed on October 31. We take this public health problem very seriously. It is also on the rise, certainly linked to many trips”. Reassuring, Stéphanie Erales ensures that the service provider always achieves a result. “Even if for the tenants all this seems long and the time is not the same for everyone”. Several other dwellings also affected in the building will also be treated. As for the transfer request requested by the young mother, there too patience is necessary: ”No less than 50,000 housing requests, 30% of which are for transfer, concern Haute-Garonne, recalls Stéphanie Erales. There too the expectation is always too long, but there is a lack of social housing in Toulouse”.
