Salzburg companies at the world’s largest construction machinery fair
Business
There was lively participation from Salzburg companies at the world’s largest construction machinery trade fair, which ended in Munich on Friday. The trend topic was climate protection. There, the local companies want to score with alternative drives.
Salzburg companies presented themselves with climate-friendly construction machinery at the construction machinery trade fair (BAUMA). The main challenge at the moment is the lack of infrastructure for hydrogen and electric drives. The technologies are ready and we are waiting to see where the path will lead, says Peter Mayr, Managing Director of Liebherr Sales Austria. According to Liebherr, hydrogen is still in the prototype phase and electric drives are available for smaller construction machines. That is why there is no large-scale production yet.
Climate-friendly machines in demand
There is a demand for alternative drives – Wimmer Hartstahl, based in Thalgau, has also noticed this. These days, property developers want to present themselves as climate-friendly as possible, especially where construction is going to be publicly effective. According to Andreas Wimmer, Managing Director of Wimmer Hartstahl, that’s what the customers want too.
Electrification required
In some cases, politicians are already completely banning combustion engines, which is causing strong demand at Palfinger, based in Bergheim, for example, says Andreas Klauser, Managing Director of Palfinger: “There are cities that don’t want any exhaust gases or noise from the construction machines and they just want electrification will be worked.”
Order books well filled
The Salzburg companies are currently assessing the prospects for the coming year as positive. The order books are full. Nevertheless, the construction machinery manufacturers worry about the effects of a stagnating construction industry, a lack of raw materials, inflation and the Ukraine crisis.
