Ligue 1: Lens dominates Toulouse and consolidates its place as dolphin of PSG
RC Lens still closed a home victory against Toulouse (3-0). With these three additional points, the Lensois consolidate their second place in Ligue 1.
For the 13th day of Ligue 1, RC Lens hosted Toulouse with the aim of securing a third victory in a row and thus consolidating its place as runner-up to PSG in the standings. Franck Haise bet on a less offensive team than usual with the presence of Seko Fofana all the same behind Wesley Said and Florian Sotoca. For its part, Toulouse, which was in 10th place at kick-off, presented itself with the classic and in particular van den Boomen, Dallinga or even Aboukhlal in front.
From the start of the match, the two teams still left a lot of space. RC Lens moved forward quickly thanks to Seko Fofana who took advantage of his power and speed to rush into the smallest holes left by the Toulouse defense. He did not go far from opening the score twice, but his strikes lacked precision (12th, 39th). The Toulousains, them, proceeded against but lacked precision in the last gesture to hope to deceive the vigilance of Brice Samba. After 45 dynamic, but rather muddled minutes, the two teams returned to the locker room with a fairly logical 0-0.
Franck Haise’s changes changed everything
When they returned from the locker room, Lens came back with better intentions and could have quickly opened the scoring. Da Costa obtained a penalty quickly after a nice feint of cross in front of Desler who mowed late (49th). But Seko Fofana did not transform the occasion. Or at least, Maxime Dupé allows Toulouse to keep the 0-0. Faced with the impotence of his attack, Franck Haise decided to react and bring in Lois Openda and Florian Sotoca to bring more weight up front. Effectiveness guaranteed since barely 3 minutes later, it was Sotoca who placed a cross on the head of Openda for the opener (59th).
This but logically pushed Toulouse to take more risk and try to get out quickly to equalize. But Lens did not bend and also took advantage of the spaces to try to make the break. Finally, despite opportunities on both sides, it was Haise’s men who ensured victory thanks to a triple from Openda (88th, 90th). RC Lens takes three important points and consolidates second place in the Ligue 1 standings. The Sang et Or come back to 2 points from PSG and have mostly won every time in their stadium since the start of the season. For its part, Toulouse falls again in the season, but still remains in the soft underbelly while waiting for the other matches of the weekend.
