“Liberia. Treasure Hunters: Russian Indiana Jones
Orlov is the former, first of all, as a director for the big screen TV series Our Russia: Eggs of Destiny and the sports drama Poddubny. Both projects performed well at the box office, plus Orlov made money on advertising. As a result, in 2017, he even entered the TOP 20 most successful directors in Russia according to Forbes with $14.38 million. For film distribution, the director was filmed relatively rarely, once every few years, but it can already be said that each of his projects is connected with “destroying the box office”. And Liberea definitely has this potential.
First, a solid adventure story in the spirit of “our answer to Indiana Jones.” It revolves around the location of “Liberia” – the library of Ivan the Terrible, which, according to legend, is lost somewhere in the vastness of Russia. The topic itself is cool, take it and shoot it, but for some reason before that, for the most part, it flashed on TV projects (for example, in the TV series Moscow Secrets). In general, the history of Russia and even Moscow taken separately is rich in some urban legends that literally lie under their feet and are waiting to be dug up by filmmakers.
Secondly, excellent humor, which dilutes the extremely uncomplicated detective line to find Liberea. It is built for the most part around the environment of a couple – Tikhon Zhiznevsky and Kirill Serebryakov. It’s interesting to watch, especially Serebryakov. The hero of the latter is a toxic-cynical science aholic on the inside, and something between Mavrodi and Chikatilo on the outside. It is the character of Serebryakov from the main trio of heroes who goes through the arch in order to come to terms with the finale of the search engine Liberei with his son Zhiznevsky. That is, thirdly, an excellent cast. As a result, one of the best domestic adventure films of the year and an ideal option for going to the movies on the weekends.
