Contrasting evening with a miraculous Nantes, Rennes which spoils, Monaco which disappoints but survives and Nice which finally wins
This Europe League and Europa League Conference evening was mixed for the French clubs. Rennes could have struck a blow but ruined everything against Fenerbahçe after leading 0-3 (3-3). Not better for Monaco at Ferencvaros (1-1) in the fifth Europa League. In the Conference League, Nice won against Partizan Belgrade (2-1).
In Istanbul, Rennes had the opportunity to strike a blow. And that was the case, thanks to a double from Gouiri (5th, 30th) and a new goal from Terrier (16th), Bruno Genesio’s players quickly took the lead. Unfortunately, Fener got everything back with Enner Valencia (42nd), Zajc (82nd) and Emre Mor (88th).
Enough to stir up the regrets of the Bretons who sinned out of pride, suddenly, Rennes will play their first place next Thursday at home against the Cypriots of Larnaca.
Also in the Europa League, Monaco also missed direct qualification against Ferencvaros (1-1). Ben Yedder opened the scoring for Monaco (31st) but the Hungarians snatched the draw through Zachariassen (82nd). It will take victory in a week against Etoile Rouge at the Louis-II stadium to retain second place, the first, occupied by Ferencvaros, being no longer attainable.
For its part, Nantes needed a miracle to beat Qarabag at La Beaujoire (2-1). 0), but it took a goal from Ignatius Ganago in added time to overcome Qarabag (90 + 5) while Ozobic (54th, sp) had recovered the advantage found by Blas (17th).
The Canaries play against Olympiakos with the hope of snatching second place.
Finally, in the Europa League Conference, Nice took the lead in their group, tied on points with their opponent of the day, Partizan Belgrade (2-1).
The Aiglons defeated Partizan thanks to Lemina (77th) who gave a victory for which Pépé had paved the way (29th). Gomes had tied the two teams just before the victorious goal from the Nice midfielder (74th) but the players of Lucien Favre won and thus had their future between their feet for the last day in Cologne next Thursday. A victory and it is the direct qualification.
