30 startups from all over the world arrive in Venice to protect the environment
VENICE – The idea is to make Venice a pole of attraction for young talents from all over the world, as well as find innovative ideas to increase environmental sustainability. With this aim, 30 Italian and international startups will be hosted by VeniSia (Venice Sustainability Innovation Accelerator), the sustainable innovation ecosystem of Ca ‘Foscari University, for the second Co-Innovation program.
VENISIA WANTS TO MAKE VENICE A POLO OF ATTRACTION FOR YOUNG TALENTS
The startups, which come from 10 different countries and have been selected from almost 4,000 applications, will now begin a path of Co-Innovation together with partner companies. The team can move to the city giving life to an international community that will make Venice itself an accelerator. They will be subsidized in the cost of room and board and involved in community building projects and activities. The finalist startups will be chosen in early 2023 and will receive a prize of 20,000 euros.
The initiative is supported by the Main Partner Eni, through Joule, its Business School, by Enel as Premium partner, by Atlantia, Cisco and Snam as Core Partner, and by De’Longhi Group and Goppion Caffè as Tech Partner .
SELECTED AMONG 4,000 CANDIDATURES, THE 30 STARTUPS WILL MEASURE ON 7 DIFFERENT CHALLENGES
Seven challenges on which the candidate startups were called to measure themselves. The first is related to the Low-carbon mobilitythe second ai innovative and sustainable materialsthen to the solutions for increase engagement stakeholders and social acceptance of renewable energy plants. Fourth challenge on the applications of Data analysis for the analysis and monitoring of climatic parameters, while the fifth relates to Sustainable supply chain. Finally, the theme of the circular economy and the Waste managementand that of Smart cities and community.
THE PROJECTS AMONG THE DECOMPOSITION OF PLASTIC, THE ORIGAMI PHOTOVOLTAIC PANEL AND THE DIESEL PRODUCED FROM WASTE
Among the selected startups there are the American Jupiterthat it has created a platform that provides data and analytics services to better link and manage the risks of rising sea levels, intensification of storms and rising temperatures causing medium and long-term climate change; the German Bewormwhich has developed a recycling process that decomposes plastic waste into valuable raw materials thanks to no bacteria; the Levante startupfounded in Milan by an Italian-Norwegian couple, who created a portable photovoltaic panel in the shape of origami, double-sided and foldable, entirely designed in Italy with recycled carbon fiber; the startup Pyro-Degrade Energyfounded in 2019 in Nairobi in Kenya, which produces a fuel similar to diesel but more eco-sustainable starting from plastic waste; the German startup Solmove builds ‘smart solar roads’, smart roads capable of providing electric cars with clean energy and information; the startup Aquaseekwhich was born in 2019 as a spin-off of the Polytechnic of Turin and Princeton University, and which has patented a technology that uses the atmosphere as a source of pure water available for human use.
