Unified regulations for Dutch-language libraries | Brussels
BrusselsOn Wednesday, VGC board member Pascal Smet (one.brussels-Vooruit) signed the agreement for library regulations at Muntpunt. From now on, pronunciation regulations will apply to all Dutch-language libraries in Brussels.
From Wednesday onwards, all inhabitants of Brussels can lend books in the Dutch-language libraries and the Muntpunt under the same conditions. But the novelty is the annual membership becomes free for everyone. In each library, 15 materials can be borrowed for a period of 3 weeks. If you return them too late, you will receive a late fee of 5 euro cents per day.
In Brussels there was already one membership card that you could use in every library. By aligning the rates, term and number of items on loan, the Dutch-language libraries will collaborate even more closely. They also better organize their collections and activities together. The new regulations agreements will come into effect from September 2023.
“Corona taught us that libraries are basic services in society. It is therefore logical that membership and also the borrowing of reserving materials in libraries is free. We provide low-threshold access to the library and transparent services with equal rates and terms. In this way we want to be able to get as much as possible”, according to the inhabitants of Brussels.
