Russian man GAZ showed how to make a standing “Volga”. They didn’t think of this at the factory.
GAZ-21 “Volga” is one of the best cars of its time in the USSR. However, even now these machines are very much appreciated. They are completely restored or researched on the basis of separate projects, one of which is discussed in this article. The essence of the project boils down to the fact that Russian competence, without outside help, independently did in the garage what the plant cannot do GAS – convertible GAZ-21.
It is worth noting that two cars participated in the project – this is the GAZ-21 of 1967, and the more recent Volga-3110, from which almost the entire technical part was removed. It all started with the fact that it was necessary to mount a 16-valve engine from 3110 into the old “twenty-first” Volga. To simplify, I had to cut off the front part of the more recent model along with the front suspension, including the side members and weld the engine compartment into a rare model. I had to suffer, but everything went smoothly.
Next, the roof was cut and the area of the doors was increased. It was also decided to strengthen the thresholds with a profile pipe. After that, it was necessary to completely dismantle the interior in order to prepare the car for painting. Everything was duly puttied, covered with soil and painted with snow-white paint. During the assembly process on the 21st Volga, almost the entire hodovka was installed from the GAZ-3110.
With regards to the interior, here the seats have been changed to white leather. Made a complete relight of the dashboard. The front panel was also transferred from the GAZ-3110, but it was covered with a white cloth, leaving decorative wood-like inserts, which looked very premium. Also, a good audio system was installed in the car.
As a result, the author received an application that attracts the attention of everyone who sees a car on public roads. It is noteworthy that the car received not only an elegant appearance, but also excellent driving characteristics, due to the engine and suspension from the more modern Volga. (a photo: www.drive2.ru)
