Inter are no longer leaders, AC Milan creates a surprise against Juventus
Inter Milan remain undefeated at the end of the 7e day, but yields its first place to Roma, closely followed by Fiorentina. The duo take advantage of Inter’s draw on the lawn of Sassuolo. Juventus suffered their first defeat of the season, beaten on the lawn of AC Milan…
Juventus of Turin seems to have lost its luster at the start of the season. Quadruple reigning Italian champions, the Bianconere no longer dominate the debates in Serie A. Juve remain at the foot of the podium after recording a first loss on Saturday against AC Milan (4-3). In total, the Turin club has already given up 7 points after 7 days.
A slow start to the season for Juve
Nothing definitive at this stage, but an illustration of the current limits of Juve. Injuries contribute to the instability of the Bianconero workforce, especially when executives are missing. Last season, Joe Montemurro had managed to organize a rotation of his workforce, which could perform well on all fronts, and in particular on the European scene.
This season, the room for maneuver seems more limited. This defeat in Lombardy comes between two matches of the Champions League, including a meeting expected on Thursday against Olympique Lyonnais. AC Milan took the opportunity to claim their first victory against Juve since November 2018. The previous seven meetings between the two teams had ended in a bianconera victory.
Victory was imperative for AC Milan
Moreover, the Milanese absolutely needed these three points, while the Rossonere have already lost several lengths to the leading teams. A defeat against Juve would have buried part of Milan’s ambitions this season. The Milanese revolt is led by Kosovare Asllani. The Swedish striker scored a double express in the first period (24e and 25e), overtaking her teammate in selection, Linda Sembrant, on the opener.
If Juventus quickly reduces the gap by Agnese Bonfantini (31e), the effect is quickly canceled by Martina Piemonte, author of the third but Milanese (32e). In the second half, the gap widened further when Malgorzata Mesjasz added another but from a corner (62e).
With Lineth Beerensteyn back from injury and Barbara Bonansea rested, Joe Montemurro chose to launch Cristiana Girelli for the end of the match. The double of the Italian international (70e and 90 + 5) bring Juve closer, without allowing to snatch a sharing of points. With these three points, AC Milan (5e) is two points behind Juve (4e), but remains six lengths off the top of the standings.
A jostled chef in Sassuolo
This first rank is no longer occupied by Inter Milan, reported this Sunday on the lawn of Sassuolo (1-1). A paradoxical team, Sassuolo has only taken two points since the start of the season, managing to snag Juventus and now Inter Milan! Gianpiero Piovani’s players were even close to victory, while Martina Tomaselli had given the advantage to Neroverde (62e), moments after it comes into play.
Isabella Kresche’s crossbar then seems to magnetize interist strikes. Stefanie van der Gragt (20and), Ajara Njoya (77e) or Tabitha Chawinga (90e) see their failed attempts on the frame. The Malawian striker nevertheless manages to equalize in added time, Tabitha Chawinga cutting off Gloria Marinelli’s cross (90+2).
New crossover at the top
Inter (3e) thus gives up first place, one point behind the duo AS Roma (1uh) and Fiorentina (2e). The two teams climb to the top, thanks to narrow victories against Como and Sampdoria. The Genoese club led the score against Fiorentina, after Kelly Gago’s opener (14e). The French striker shook the nets after an irresistible acceleration in the Florentine camp (14e).
The game changed in just over a minute in the second half. Veronica Boquete equalizes with a header (71e), before serving Milica Mijatovic on the second goal of the Viola (72e, 2-1) . For its part, Roma settled for a single goal against FC Como (1-0), scored by Valentina Giacinti (72e). On the center of Benedetta Glionna, the Italian attacker then concretizes a Roman domination which was slow to produce its effects in this part.
In this game of musical chairs, the next day promises new developments at the top of the table, with Inter-Roma and Juventus-Fiorentina posters on October 29 and 30.
First success for Pomigliano
The bottom of the table is also known in its part of movements. In addition to the draw from Sassuolo, Pomigliano offered a first victory on Saturday on the lawn of Parma (1-3). Red lantern before this weekend, the Campania club climbed two places in the standings (8e).
A positive start for his new coach, Carlo Sanchez, while Brazilian striker Taty scored his fourth goal of the season, opening the scoring in the first half (19e). If Parma scores in the second half by Melania Martinovic (70e), Pomigliano proved to be more effective, with further achievements for Katarzyna Konat (58e) and Ana Lucia Martinez (85e).
