BNXT LEAGUE. Limburg United unbeaten on victory at Brussels
The throw-up in Brussels was provided by the sons of Maxime De Zeeuw (Louis and Jules) and assistant coach Niels Marnegrave (Liam). All three wore a shirt from Limburg. That inspired the Limburgers to a strong start. Offensively, it was perhaps a little too easy in the beginning, with Desiron and again Delalieux (8-16) in the lead.
“After a very strong start, we found the right options throughout the race”, says Yannick Desiron. “In the first win we mainly use the inside got. Brussels are sticking together. The intensity was great, but it was regularly interrupted by high errors. We may not have the focus for the full 40 minutes, but we always woke up at the right moments. We don’t look at the fact that we are unbeaten as a motorcycle team. Our focus is now on next weekend’s cup games.”
Many mistakes
The well-subbed Lambot made it 13-28 with a three-pointer. After an initial response from Brussels, the number was halved. Stein made 20-37 at the free-throw line, but the capital city residents had completed a second intermediate sprint and came back to 35-41 shortly after the break. United had prepared a counter-reaction, but the game was halted due to many mistakes and discussions with the umpires. Brussels took advantage of this to come back again to eight points. Tumba was ruled out after a technical foul was previously given an unsportsmanlike. Then it was VAT off for Brussels. Kobe Abelshausen made his debut in the final minute.
“We are playing a very solid game,” said coach Raymond Westphalen. “Everyone did their job, except for the last minute. It is in defense that you have to make progress during the season. We were still too lax at times, that has yet to come out. It’s one of the things we learned today. But I am very satisfied with the performance of my team.”
“We manage to keep Stein out of the match, but Limburg has so many solutions for offenses”, elaborated Brussels coach Jaumin. Tabu finally scored ten points against his ex-squad.
