Euroleague: Milan and Bologna reach an agreement to release their players for Italy-Spain
Armani Milan have announced that their Euroleague match against Virtus Bologna has been brought forward to November 11-9.
This change of date gives the possibility to some Italian players of both teams to play the match against Spain and also to the coach of Virtus Sergio Scariolo to be on the bench of the Spanish national team, which was a a priori impossible since the two matches overlapped.
It should be noted that all parties had been working on this change for a few weeks already and it was announced, a few days ago, that the Spanish national team is preparing in the facilities of the Virtus for this match, allowing Sergio Scariolo to oversee everything.
It can be noted that Vincent Collet has already announced the list of 12 players for this November window where France played Lithuania on November 11 and Bosnia and Herzegovina three days later. Yoan Makoundou (Monaco) and Paul Lacombe (Villeurbanne), who are bench players, were released by their club to join the Blues. But Mam Jaiteh and Isaia Cordinier of Virtus Bologna are now “selectable” for the match against Lithuania. Will they join the group?
It remains to be seen if this schedule arrangement is an isolated case or if it foreshadows that FIBA and the Euroleague will finally smoke the pipe of peace.
