Briac: “I have AS Monaco in my blood”
To celebrate the systematic presence of many Monegasque supporters away from home, asmonaco.com is continuing its “Everywhere Always” series, dedicated to supporters of the Red and Whites. For this 5th episode of the season, meet Briac, a northerner.
Briac Le Godec, 25, is from Villeneuve-d’Ascq, in the North of France. However, this tennis teacher fell in love with a club located more than 1000 kilometers from his home: AS Monaco. Meeting with this admirer of Radamel Falcao and of Fernando Morientes.
Hello Briac, how and from whom did this passion for the Club come to you?
I was born in 1997, and like all supporters of my age or almost, I fell under the spell of AS Monaco during the edition of the Champions League 2003-2004. This time coincides with the first games I was able to watch, I was six or seven years old at the time. And it’s been going on for almost 20 years.
That season, we won very often, we had an XI at a stratospheric level. I sincerely think that we are the most beautiful champion of the last ten years, it was phenomenal.
About the 2016-2017 season
Isn’t it difficult to support a club other than the one in your region?
It’s very complicated. I am the only one of my group of friends to be for Monaco, all the others are for Lille or Lens. So of course I get teased on match days between Lille and AS Monaco. Besides when the calendar so, it’s the first game that I tick! When the two teams are playing against each other, I leave my phone aside, because I know that in the result, my friends can confuse me.
Fortunately over the last decade, the Red and Whites are still more consistent than Lille apart from their league title two years ago. But we have a great club! The supporters are present everywhere, just look at our parks. It is a pride to support these colors.
What are your first memories with AS Monaco?
Apart from 2003-2004 because that era is special, I think that the takeover, victory on the lawn of Arsenaland the arrival of Falcao remain defining moments for me. Another great memory is the double confrontation against Manchester City during the 2016-2017 season. At the time, I had invited about fifteen friends to watch the match at my house. It was incredible because even if they are not Club supporters, they vibrated in front!
I also have good memories in Ligue 2. Ibrahima Touré’s goal at the last minute on the lawn of Nîmes which allows us to find Ligue 1 remains a very strong moment in my life as a supporter. Even if it was two difficult seasons, it is formative.
Who are your favorite players from yesterday and today?
When I was younger it was Ludo Giuly and Fernando Morientes. Otherwise, more recently it is Kylian Mbappe. At the time, I was watching the Euro U19 with a friend, and immediately we saw his ball shots, we thought he was great. He already had something different. Radamel Falcao too, how can we forget his sense of purpose? He never gave up, he came back and he had a crazy season in 2016-2017. His duet with Mbappé was incredible, his double free kick against Dijon, his lob against Manchester Cityit’s genius!
That season, we won very often, we had an XI at a stratospheric level. I sincerely think that we are the most beautiful champion of the last ten years, it was phenomenal. Special mention for finishing at Dimitar Berbatov. I have never seen someone play while walking and manage to be so technically strong. This player is the pinnacle of talent. He is a ball artist. No one looks like him!
Have you ever traveled?
Yes, in Bordeaux where I was able to see the first match – and the first goal – of Radamel Falcao. But I admit that I am more sensitive to the game than to the atmosphere in a stadium. So I really like being at home to be able to see all the action well and observe how the team is playing. I like to debrief with Monegasque supporters after the matches, I think it’s a good time to share, even if it’s from a distance.

Have you ever had the chance to go to the Stade Louis-II?
Twice ! The first, for a Monaco-Toulouse, with a goal of Nene. The second, against Rennes this season ! I negotiated with my girlfriend not to go on vacation too far from Monaco, and thus go to the Louis-II. I was in Munegu Family but I was too deep so I had to generalize people (laughs), it’s stronger than me. I really live for the Club, I have AS Monaco in my blood!
