Studio Brussel apologizes for stunt around ‘star girl’ on criticism of herself: “She didn’t do what this broke for me” | showbiz
showbizStudio Brussel has apologized for a promo stunt in which the star girl Kimberley, who became famous in 2009 for her facial tattoo (which she later regretted).
Kimber’s case made headlines. In her own words, she asked tattoo artist Rouslan Toumaniantz in Kortrijk for three stars on her face, but she fell asleep while posting. When they woke up they had not three, but fifty-six stars in her face. What followed was a past, and much jeering online. Kimberly’s stars have been lasered off in the meantime, but they were not forgotten at Studio Brussel.
There this week they launched an Instagram filter of you could transform yourself into the ‘star girl’. Some faces of the channel, including Sam De Bruyn and Eva De Roo, already demonstrated it.
Not everyone comes to laugh about it. There was a lot of reaction on social media. Many thought it was inappropriate to show this ‘bullying behavior’ towards Kimberly, but at the same time organize ‘De Warmste Week’ and campaigns against bullying.
Kimberly also participates in the fun action. “I hereby want this bullying to stop,” it sounds. “That it stops belittling my personality, because it’s been almost 13 years. I also have a child and I work full time. So I want people to stop killing old cows and stop ruining my life because she didn’t stop what all this is making for me. My work, my private life, everything is in jeopardy.”
The station then apologized: “It is never our intention to intentionally hurt or insult anyone. We made that yesterday using this photo and filter well actually happened. It was wrong and inappropriate. That’s why we’ve removed the post and filter again. We therefore extend our deepest apologies.”
