Strong emotion at the Toulouse Alpine Club, after the tragic death of another of its members

“It’s a real black series for the club”. Bruno Serraz, president of the French Alpine Club (CAF) of Toulouse, announced this Friday to its members the tragic death of Nicholas Fritz. The tragedy occurred on Sunday October 16, 2022, in the Pyreneesthe day after that of Jean Le Corre, another mountaineer member of the association, died Saturday in Ariège after a fall of more than 60 meters.
Died in a bicycle accident
“We learned on Wednesday with much sadness that a second member of the club had died this weekend in a mountain bike accident in individual practice, excluding club outings”, announces Bruno Serraz. “It’s about Nicolas Fritz”.
“A diligent and involved member”
Nicolas Fritz was a member of the CAF, as well as the SLAT (Ski leisure Airbus Toulouse). “He practiced mountain biking with us, but also canyoning and ski touring”, confides Bruno Serraz to Toulouse News. “He was not a daredevil, but he had his head on his shoulders”. Old 46 yearshe was employed byAirbus and lived in the Purpan district in Toulouse.
“He had taken part in ski touring outings last spring with several members of the club, including Jean Le Corre. He had also taken part in canyon and mountain bike outings this summer. He was an increasingly assiduous member and related”.
“The infinite sadness” of the president of the Alpine club
If the circumstances of the death of Nicolas Fritz are still unknown, the president who does not hide his “infinite sadness”, intends to “alert our members to the dangers of certain sports”, after this terrible autumn weekend for the CAF.
“Mountain biking is one of the most accident-prone disciplines that we practice. It involves very high risk taking, on steep and uneven terrain, and sometimes leads to serious injuries, especially to the lower limbs”.
“The Toulouse CAF sends its most sincere condolences to all his family and all its support to those who knew him,” added President Serraz. On the SLAT Montagne side, the emotion is the same: “The whole office is very suffering”, breathes John Lozar, President son.
His funeral took place on Friday at Montauban-de-Luchon (Haute-Garonne), at the foot of the Pyrenees which Nicolas Fritz appreciated so much.
