VIDEO. Fake TV news, cloud factory… the amazing installations of the Quai des Savoirs festival, in Toulouse
The eighth edition of the “Lumières sur le Quai” festival questions the virtual and the real. Amazing installations to discover at the Quai des savoirs, in Toulouse, for two weeks.
A cloud-making machine, a large LED panel sensitive to touch and sound, a device with a robot that creates a fake television news, a huge luminous tunnel with 20 arches, or even a container with a hypnotizing projection. All these artistic creations take part in the eighth edition of the “Lumières sur le quai” festival, organized by the quay of knowledge at the end of its major annual exhibition on critical thinking.
From today and for two weeks, the theme “Fiction or reality? is offered in several forms: workshops, discussions, exhibitions and live performances. The idea? “Questioning the new limits between fiction and reality, in particular through new technologies and current knowledge”, explains Laurent Chicoineau, the director of the Quai. The artists were selected following a call for projects or because they were housed in residence at the Quai des savoirs.
This is the case of Alain Josseau, who has been working for several years on automatic warfare and the instrumentalization of the image. With the help of Toulouse researchers from LAAS (the CNRS Laboratory for Analysis and Architecture of Systems), the visual artist invented “Breaking News”. With the head of an animated robot – an animatronic – a model of a city in ruins and software that imports images from the internet in real time, it makes it possible to build a live news bulletin, modeled on television channels. continuous information. “The idea is to question ourselves about the reality of the images we see in the media, to sharpen our eyes,” explains Alain Josseau.
