Episode 12: Monaco for the pass of three?
Previously, in the 22-23 season of “LOSC Ligue 1”
An almost mathematical alternation of victories and defeats and then the click, two consecutive successes, two clean sheets of rank. The Mastiffs are currently engaged in an unprecedented dynamic this season. And for a positive spiral to become a series, it must be nurtured, match after match. The recent successes against Lens (1-0) then Strasbourg (0-3) are therefore invited to make little ones, starting with this Sunday against Monaco.
The Pitch
Win, chain, garner, yes but opposite, it is a solid opponent who presents himself. After a lackluster start to the season (only 1 victory in the first 5 days), the men of the Principality have found their cruising speed. They have chained 5 wins in their last 6 Ligue 1 matches. However, they remain in a draw last weekend at home against Clermont (1-1). If they win this Sunday, Lille will also be certain to win (at least) a place in the standingsthat of their opponent of the day, since AS Monaco (6e) is ahead of LOSC (7e) only 2 small dots.
In Guests
Timo is back and that’s good news for LOSC. Absent at the start of the season, the American international returned to competition by entering the Derby. Again propelled into the game at the end of the match in Strasbourg, he achieved the feat of delivering two assists in less than half an hour. In his last 4 official matches with LOSC (if we open the analysis at the end of the 21-22 season), Timothy Weah scored 3 goals and offered 3 offerings.
In the opposite camp, we will have to be wary of Wissam Ben Yedder. The French international striker has been involved in 5 of AS Monaco’s last 10 goals against LOSC in Ligue 1 (3 goals, 2 assists). A real danger for the Mastiffs.
On replay
The last face to face between Lille and Monegasques? It was May 6. Les Dogues lost 1-2 at the Decathlon Arena Stade Pierre Mauroy. Angel Gomes scored for LOSC, but Aurélien Tchouameni scored twice for ASM. In the first leg, on November 19, 2021, the Dogues drew with ASM at home (2-2) thanks to an early double from Jonathan David.
Filming Secrets
Impossible to find the best promise of goals in a match than this LOSC-ASM, this season in Ligue 1. Monaco and Lille are indeed the two teams of the championship which remain on longest streak scoring at least one goal : 21 for ASM and 14 for LOSC. It is therefore a safe bet that the nets will shake on Sunday in Villeneuve d’Ascq.
Two suspended hunt two others
Bafodé Diakité and Angel Gomes served their match suspensions. But Sunday is José Fonte and Benjamin André who will be missing for the same reason, namely the accumulation of 3 yellow cards in less than 10 games.
It will be a small “event” for José Fonte who remained on 49 consecutive matches in Ligue 1 (disputed in full, moreover). All competitions combined, the Lille captain even sees this counter climb to 60 games (!) The last time he missed even a minute of an official LOSC match? It was the title, in Angers (1-2), on May 23, 2021.
disclose
This match opposes Monaco, the Ligue 1 team having scored the most headed goals this season (7) to one of the teams not yet registered. LOSC is indeed, with Toulouse, the only team in the championship not yet to have shaken the net with a headbutt in 2022-2023. Suffice to say that the story would be beautiful if the Mastiffs unlocked this counter this Sunday.
