a large family that trains the nurses of tomorrow
Personalized supervision, small promotions, quest for excellence… The Institute of the Principality has undeniable assets.
This year they received more than 680,000 applications. The Nursing Training Institutes (IFSI) are attracting more and more candidates across France, who hope to join one of these schools. And among these establishments, the IFSI of Monaco is particularly attractive thanks to its prestige, but also thanks to its personalized support for students.
Witness Clara, 20 years old. Originally from Menton, the young girl has just started her third and final year of training. If the geographical proximity to Monaco is an undeniable advantage, the student had put the Principality in first choice on Parcoursup for other reasons:
” I wanted Monaco IFSI at all costs for its prestige, for the quality of the school, she testifies. We are about 25 per promotion, so we are not in a large amphitheater of a hundred students. On a particular pedagogical follow-up: the managers know us, know our professional follow-up. I would also like to work at the hospital in Monaco afterwards, so who better than Monaco for me as a veteran? »
Once again, it is the prestige of the Center Hospitalier Princesse Grace, where quality of care and excellent working conditions combine, which motivates this career choice: “ the CHPG is highly renowned, it is recognized as one of the best. The nurses who work there are content to be there. »
Three years after her admission, Clara still remembers her reaction when she found out she was admitted: it was tears of joy for my parents and for me. (…) The school made me mature, in particular thanks to the theoretical contributions. We are lucky, in Monaco, to attend ethical conferences, courses on relationships, or even to have a psychologist who does hypnosis. All of this helps us at the relational level with the patient, and that’s what I like about this job: the contact with the human being. It’s like a big family here. In addition, each promotion chooses a godfather or godmother. Ours has chosen navigator Alexia Barrier, for her courage and tenacity. »
A dense and complete program
Impatient to receive her diploma, valid throughout the European Union, from the hands of Princess Caroline, Clara therefore hopes to quickly join the ranks of the CHPG, whatever the specialty. She will thus complete her three years of training, which are particularly rich and dense, as explained to us by Josette Piazza Cadiou, director of the Institute: “ in all, students have 4,200 hours of training, divided equally between internships and theory. We work a lot on entering working life, especially during the last semester. The program is strong, intense, you have to learn a lot of things “, she underlines.
A workload on which the director insists, when she visits high school students and future candidates. She does not hesitate to remind them that the selection process, via the Parcoursup platform, takes into account the marks obtained in Second, First and Terminale: ” I always say to young people: “work well! If you want to come to us, your posture, your commitment will be very important. “We look at the behavior, and that, it is worked from the Second. I also recommend filling out all the blocks of Parcoursup, by writing down what each experience has brought, and making the link with the future job. »
If some students are not taken by the end of high school, there is another option. Josette Piazza Cadiou advises applicants who have been refused to follow a nursing assistant course, which will allow them to enhance their profile, then to continue as a nurse thanks to Continuing Professional Training, based on tests and an interview.
Jérémy, 33, is precisely in this situation. Nursing assistant at the CHPG since 2009, he decided to retrain in 2020. He is therefore in the same promotion as Clara and benefits from the same courses.
Our IFSI cannot be like another school
Josette Piazza Cadiou
A nice conclusion, because at the end of high school, the young man already wanted to join the IFSI of Monaco. Having unfortunately not obtained his baccalaureate at the time, he then turned to the profession of nursing assistant, which reinforced his desire to reorient himself towards the profession of nurse thereafter. ” Having been a caregiver gave me all the keys to what it means to be a nurse, and it made me want to do it even more. By becoming a nurse, I will be able to understand things much better, to know the anatomy, the drugs that are given… »
And the mix with the youngest classmates is going well: “ the age difference is not really felt, we mutually bring something to each other “, he explains.
Jérémy also welcomes the internships, which take place in Monaco, unlike other IFSIs which can send students several kilometers from their place of residence and study: “ it’s much more practical and it’s a family setting: we find our trainers in the field, we all know each other. It’s much easier to learn in these conditions. »
And there is no doubt: Jéméry wants to continue his career with the CHPG. ” I feel good here. The working conditions are ideal and the salaries attractive, while the profession has long been discredited because of the income in France. In addition, here, we have time with the patients, so we have the feeling of doing our job well. We can listen to them, it’s relational. »
The Princely Family, very involved
Very proud of her students, Josette Piazza Cadiou recognizes that the students who reorient themselves, whether they come from medical professions or not, offer very good profiles, which mix with the youth of the students from Parcoursup.
” It’s a big family, that’s what Benoîte de Sévelinges, the director of the CHPG, says to students when they welcome them at the start of the year. “, she says.
An intimate setting which is also characterized by the commitment of the Princely Family, and this, from the beginning. ” The first promotion was in 1929, under the aegis of Princess Charlotte. Today, Princess Caroline is our godmother. Symbolically, for me, it gives strength. It gives strength to the country. Our IFSI cannot be like another school. We are in a dimension of respect, of benevolence for patients. Prince Albert I had begun to institute the whole idea of a hospital, and ever since the hospital has not stopped being remodeled, enlarged… There is, politically, a will. And we are very honored to have Princess Caroline as our godmother. It was Princess Grace who instituted the insignia ceremony in 1965, so it makes perfect sense. For the students, it’s a rite of passage, for me it’s a strength: something is happening for these young people “says Josette Piazza Cadiou.
A political presence, which is combined with ideal working conditions: “ on an extraordinary place with equipment, trainers. It’s easier to work with small groups, it pushes us to question and to excellence. We are pampered. We love coming to work here. »
The CHPG provides studios for 30 students in a building in Beausoleil which is dedicated to CHPG staff. These students are happy to be able to benefit from these studios at an extremely attractive rent.
In short, everything is done so that students and teachers, guided by this common desire for excellence, can practice in the best possible conditions and continue to offer patients the guarantee of quality specific to the CHPG and, by extension, to the Principality.
