Toulouse: High school students still mobilized after the day of October 18
Students from Berthelot, Bellevue and Ozenne high schools in Toulouse continue to mobilize after the strike day of October 18.
Students from the Toulouse high schools Bellevue, Berthelot and Ozenne, who organized a press briefing on Wednesday October 19 at the rectorate of Toulouse, are seeking to make their demands heard after the interprofessional strike day of October 18.
“Like many people in the country, we see the degradation of public service and we feel neglected by the state”, denounce the high school students. Thirty students from Berthelot high school organized a blockade on October 18, which somewhat disrupted classes.
“Parcoursup puts pressure on us”
In terms of demands, high school students are still worried about the selection obtained by higher education establishments as part of the post-baccalaureate Parcoursup platform.
“Parcoursup exerts very strong mental pressure on high school students, explains Manon, spokesperson for the movement and first year student at Lycée Berthelot. And teachers don’t always have the time to properly inform their students. Every year, many of them find themselves without a place at university. »
For the time being, Manon considers that it is not appropriate to organize a new blockade in the high school but she assures that the high school students want to remain vigilant about the reforms to come, in particular that of the vocational high school.
“More psychological support”
Pell-mell, the high school students tell their wishes: “the questioning of Parcoursup so that everyone finds a compound in higher education and that the selection at university ceases; the increase in salaries and staff of teachers, AESH [accompagnants d’élèves en situation de handicap] and overall the means granted to national education”.
The students also ask for “more psychological support for students and less pressure” and “the abandonment of affecting vocational high schools”. Finally, the high school students demand “the massive opening of places in higher education” and rebel “against police repression against mobilized high school students”.
In addition, they say they are “for a general increase in wages in relation to current inflation and against the repression of the strikers”.
