Omroep Flevoland – News – Minister Harbers is hopeful that Brussels will contribute to Lelylijn
Minister Mark Harbers of Infrastructure and Water Management is hopeful that Brussels will help pay for the Lelylijn. Harbers writes this to the House of Representatives about the future track from Lelystad, via Emmeloord to Groningen.
“The first response from the European Commission is that it is prepared to include the Lely line in the extensive network of the TEN-T”, the letter to parliament states. TEN-T stands for Trans-European Transport Network, a European travel and transport network between major European cities. It is only possible to apply for the subsidy when the Lelylijn is part of this network.
The European transport ministers meet every two days for a meeting. Then, among other things, the future of rail connections in Europe will be discussed. In June it became clear that the Dutch cabinet had followed the Lelylijn for the European TEN-T programme. State Secretary Vivianne Heijnen has announced this. This increased the chance that Europe would pay for an early registration.
Minister Harbers hopes that he will be able to tell the House of Representatives more in the short term to make it possible to use the Lely Line in the European network of railways.
