The son of a legendary foreigner for football dresses our Bulgarian team?
Our national coach Mladen Krastaich will assist in attracting young talent to the ranks of Bulgarian football.
It is about the Serbian Velko Jelenkovic, and probably his last name already reminds you that he is the son of the legend and former captain of Litex – Nebojsa Jelenkovic.
The Serbian is second in the ranking of foreigners in the number of matches in our elite division – 293, all of which are in the Litex team. In the period 1999 – 2013, Nebojša Jelenkovic made a very serious name in our country, won five trophies with lovchanlii, and now it is clearly his son’s turn to try to make a mark in his native football.
The 19-year-old Velko has a Bulgarian passport, like his father, and until now he has played for the under-17 youth formation of our western neighbors.
At the moment, the young defender is part of the Vojvodina squad from his native Novi Sad, which is traditionally one of the strongest teams in the Serbian championship. Jelenkovic has reserve status, but he gained experience in men’s soccer with a full season as a starter for second-division Kabel (Novi Sad) last year.
According to “Blitz”, selected Jelenkovic will appear in the selection up to the age of 21, and at this stage the young player has given his consent to represent Bulgaria.
Since the beginning of his stay in our country, coach Mladen Krastaic has drastically rejuvenated our team, not hesitating to call some unknown and inexperienced names, including Nikola Iliev from the Inter school, who does not even play men’s football.
Currently, Krstaich and his team are working and securing passports for two young players with Bulgarian roots, players across the border. These are Lukas Petkov, who is part of Augsburg in the Bundesliga, as well as Christopher Popov from the school of Leicester, who at this stage is a junior international of Wales.
