Streaming service SkyShowtime costs 7 euros per month in the Netherlands
The Netherlands monthly price of 7 euros corresponds to the prices in Finland, Norway and Sweden, but in Portugal SkyShowtime costs only 5 euros per month. The company has not yet explained the reason for the price difference.
SkyShowtime is the streaming service of the major American media companies ViacomCBS and Comcast. The collection includes films, documentaries and series from Universal, Paramount, Nickelodeon, DreamWorks Animation, Paramount+, Showtime, Sky Studios and Peacock, among others.
The company says it will also have its own local programs in the various European countries where the service is active. It concerns ‘original programmes, documentaries and specials’, but it is not known what Dutch content can be expected.
Star Trek and Top Gun
SkyShowtime includes access to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Halo, Yellowstone, Let The Right One In and Law & Order Season 21 at launch. Movies such as The Lost City and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will also be available. Soon, coincidentally, also cinema films on the service, such as Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion and The Bad Guys.
To 20 European countries
SkyShowtime will have apps for iOS, Android, Apple TV, Google TV and LG TV at launch. The service will eventually be available in 20 European countries. The roll-out in Central and Eastern Europe will follow later, until the first quarter of 2023. A total of SkyShowtime will be available for 90 million European households.
Great competition
In the fierce battle for subscriptions, Netflix and Disney are taking advantage of cheaper subscription plans with commercials, with prices close to SkyShowtime’s rate.
SkyShowtime is the third major streaming service to be applied for in the Netherlands this year. HBO Max and Viaplay started in March in our country and have already attracted hundreds of thousands of Dutch subscribers.
