Berlin authorities admit: Hildmann could have been extradited
The conspiracy ideologist and right-wing extremist Attila Hildmann, wanted for incitement to hatred, could be extradited to Germany. The magazine “Stern” reported on Tuesday, citing the Berlin public prosecutor’s office, that, contrary to previous information, Hildmann does not have Turkish citizenship, only German citizenship.
Hildmann has been on the run since December 2020 and has been hiding in Turkey ever since. There he wrote to his followers in March 2021 that he was a “proud, real Nazi”, he denied the Holocaust and agitated against Jews [faz.net]. Since February 2021, he has been wanted by the Berlin public prosecutor’s office for incitement to hatred, threats and other crimes, and he is on the wanted lists of Europol and Interpol.
A year ago, the public prosecutor declared that Hildmann had Turkish citizenship in addition to German. It can therefore be assumed that he will neither arrest nor extradite Turkey, it was said at the time. That was obviously wrong. The cookbook author Attila Klaus Peter Hildmann was born in West Berlin in 1981 to Turkish parents. This gives him up for adoption as a baby, he grew up with German adoptive parents.
According to “Stern”, the spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office did not want to comment on how the authorities were misinformed. He also left open whether the federal government has since submitted an extradition request to Turkey.
