You seem to come across more police in the streets of Rouen than before ? It’s normal. Since September 2022, the watchword of Gerald Darmanin, it’s “blue in our streets”! The ministerial will has been respected in Seine-Maritime and the prefect draws a first positive assessment.
“We really do local policing”
During the Belly Feast this weekend, the police were strolling among the crowd of greedy visitors. “Presence on the public highway is important. We need a police at human height, “says the commissioner Gautier Delahaye who coordinated, on Saturday October 15, 2022, the teams of the Departmental intervention company and some BSTC, the public transport police.
When we are in the street, we respond to requests from local residents, we take information from traders. We really do community policing.
In accordance with the Minister’s instructions, the police officers descended from their 5008, “thanks to a reorganization and additional police personnel”, underlines Pierre-André Durand, Prefect of Seine-Maritime, during a press briefing on Monday 17 October. “We also do more two-person patrols”, completes Nicolas Bouferguène, Departmental Director of Public Security.
Crime down?
And it works, according to the satisfaction displayed by the prefect. “There are effects very visible and positive on all indicators”, rejoices Pierre-André Durand. It details some figures for the department (police and gendarmerie areas) in September 2022 compared to September 2021:
- -12% violent robberies
- -24% violence in public transport over the same period
- -7.5% domestic violence
- 11 engines seized at rodeos
- 361 tort fixed fines anti-drugs
- +11% hours spent off premises for police and gendarmes
- +14.7% hours spent on foot patrol
- +42% public transport patrols
the General Stéphane Gauffeny, Commander of the Normandy Gendarmerie Regionalso note a “rise in power on the reservists” which allows “a reinforced commitment on the ground”.
Faced with such results, the prefect therefore intends continue this strategy of “saturation of public space”. Appointment is now given in January 2023 for a more complete and quantified report on delinquency in the department.
